Early Days
My start in SEO wasn’t quite what you might expect. While doing a World Performance drama degree (yes, that’s right) at East 15 Acting School, I dabbled in website building, teaching myself the basics of WordPress. I created some sites for fellow students and in-house productions, including a comedy show called Sex Ed: The Musical, which was well reviewed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
After university, I joined a national charity based in London, where I got lots of experience in marketing and eventually worked my way up to Deputy Chief Executive. On the side, I was still creating websites for friends and helping them market their businesses.
The Singing VA
When I moved back to my home county of Cumbria, I started working as the Marketing Coordinator for an award-winning holiday lettings agency, Sally’s Cottages. It was here that I ‘properly’ discovered SEO and became fascinated by it, starting to learn more about how vital it is for businesses in this digital-focused world.
In 2019 I started my own company, The Singing VA, providing tech virtual assistant services for a range of different business. From content creation to SEO support and website management, The Singing VA has become a successful and well-respected service used by many businesses ranging from the micro to the large.
SINGING SEO
In summer 2023, I launched Singing SEO, providing bespoke Search Engine Optimisation services across Cumbria and the UK.
Part of The Singing VA family, it allows me to focus on what I love the most and to collaborate with other businesses who are keen to get their work out there.
Why Singing SEO?
As far back as I can remember, I’ve loved to sing. From early days dressed in a homemade outfit singing Teddybear’s Picnic on a stage, to annoying my brothers while I repeatedly warbled along to Phantom of the Opera in my bedroom, singing has always been a big part of who I am. I’ve sung in concerts, choirs, shows, weddings, and even funerals!
So, when it came to naming my business, it seemed the perfect fit.
